Description
Most outdoor festoon lights are built for a season. This one is built to stay up. The Dulora Pro Outdoor Festoon is a permanent, weatherproof IP65 string system wired with SAA-certified 2x1.5mm² UV-stabilised rubber cable and individually sealed E27 sockets, so it handles heavy rain, coastal salt air and full sun year after year. Each 8-metre module carries 10 sockets spaced 80 centimetres apart, and the connectable system links together from a single 8-metre run right up to 200 metres. Each socket supports a bulb up to 25 watts, with a maximum load of 1,500 watts across the entire run. It arrives as a string only, with a 3-metre heavy-duty IP65 power lead and built-in hanging loops, so you can choose the bulbs to match your space. Backed by a 2-year warranty on the cable and hardware.
The Rubber Cable Advantage
Here is where most festoon strings fall down. The PVC cable used on the majority of retail and mid-range products becomes brittle in the cold, sags in summer heat, cracks under constant UV and yellows with age. Leave it outside permanently, and it will not last.
The Pro System is wired throughout with 2x1.5mm² UV-stabilised rubber cable. Rubber stays supple through cold snaps and heatwaves alike, holds a clean line between mounting points without drooping, and shrugs off sun and coastal salt. Just as important, the IP65 rating applies to each socket individually, meaning each is sealed against direct water jets from any angle. That is a step beyond simple splash resistance: it is the standard you need for lighting that lives outdoors through heavy rain and sea air without being taken down each season.
Choosing Your Bulbs
The Pro System runs on E27 sockets and takes any E27 LED festoon or decorative globe up to 25 watts. Bulbs are sold separately on purpose, so you can pick the look and the colour temperature that suit the setting. Colour temperature is the choice that matters most here: it sets the mood far more than brightness does.
| Colour Temperature | Label | Atmosphere | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000K | Extra Warm White (Candle) | The deepest, candlelit amber, soft and almost flame-like | Intimate and romantic settings, heritage and vintage looks, cosy bars and late-night terraces |
| 2200K | Extra Warm White (Sunset) | Rich, deep golden warmth, the classic festoon glow | Intimate dining, wine bars, garden events, resort and hotel settings |
| 2700K | Warm White | Warm and inviting, a touch brighter and more versatile | Alfresco dining, café terraces, outdoor entertaining areas |
As a rule of thumb, the warmer the tone, the better a festoon reads, and for outdoor entertaining, the warmest options are almost always the right call. You are not limited to the bulbs in the dropdown either. Any E27 globe will fit, from classic GLS shapes to specialty festoon and vintage styless. If you have something in mind, get in touch, and we will put together a custom pairing and quote.
Dimming
The whole run can be dimmed, provided you fit dimmable E27 LED bulbs. The string itself does not include a dimmer; whether it dims depends on the bulbs you choose. Because the Pro System plugs into a standard power point, the simplest way to control it is a plug-in dimmer at the outlet, with no wiring or electrician needed. We stock a range of LED-compatible dimmers, including an outdoor-rated plug-in model built for exposed setups and a popular rotary plug-in dimmer with an on/off switch in black or white for control points that sit under cover or indoors. Set up right, you get smooth control over the entire canopy from a single point: full and lively for an outdoor dinner, then wound back to a low, warm glow once the evening settles.
Planning Your Layout
Each module is 8 metres long with 10 sockets at 80-centimetre intervals. To work out what you need, measure your total run and round up to the nearest 8 metres. A straight pergola or verandah is usually a single measurement; for an overhead grid or canopy, add up the length of each parallel row.
For a permanent installation, we recommend running the festoon along a tensioned steel support wire, also known as a catenary or guide wire, rather than letting the festoon cable carry the span on its own. Our Festoon Lighting Hanging Kit provides a stainless-steel support cable with the turnbuckle, hooks and clamps to tension it, and you then secure the string to the wire at each socket so every lamp holder is held in place, and the whole run stays straight, evenly spaced and free of sag. It is sold by length to match your span.
The 3-metre power lead reaches from the power point to the start of the string in most standard setups. From one outlet, the system extends up to 200 metres and 250 sockets. With LED festoon bulbs drawing 1 to 2 watts each, even a full 200-metre run sits comfortably under the 1,500-watt limit. If you are running higher-wattage bulbs, multiply your socket count by the bulb wattage and check that the total stays under 1,500 watts before you install.
Where It Belongs
The Pro Outdoor Festoon is at its best when the lighting is a permanent part of the space, not something packed away when summer ends. Around the home, it suits pergolas, verandahs, alfresco dining areas and poolside spaces, where a single well-planned run defines the outdoor room. In hospitality, it belongs over café terraces, beer garden canopies, restaurant courtyards and rooftop bars, where the lighting has to work night after night without fuss. At scale, the modular system covers wedding venues, winery event spaces, function lawns and large dining precincts up to 200 metres from a single power source.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What comes included with the Festoon String Light?
The Festoon String Light package contains everything required for basic installation and includes free 11W incandescent S14 bulbs with E27 Edison Screw bases. The string light features waterproof silicon rubber lamp holders spaced 80cm apart and has waterproof universal joints at both ends for connecting multiple strings. The string also includes a 240V Australian Standard 2-pin plug and can be used with selected LED light bulbs
What is the IP65 rating, and what does it mean for outdoor use?
The IP65 rating means these festoon lights are completely protected against dust ingress and against low-pressure water jets from any direction. This means they're fully weatherproof and can be safely used outdoors year-round, even during rain, snow, and other weather conditions. The waterproof silicon rubber lamp holders provide additional protection for the bulbs and electrical connections.
Can I connect multiple strings of these festoon lights?
Yes, these festoon lights feature waterproof universal joints on both ends designed explicitly for connecting multiple strings. You can connect additional 20m or 10M strings to create 40m, 60m, or more lengths. The maximum recommended connection on a single power source is 1500W, as the total wattage should not exceed 1500W. Each connection maintains the IP65 waterproof rating when adequately secured.
How do I install these festoon lights?
Installing these festoon lights is straightforward:
- Plan your layout and measure the area where you'll install the lights
- Ensure you have access to a standard 240V power outlet
- If mounting on walls or structures, install hooks, nails, or other mounting hardware (not included) at regular intervals
- Carefully unbox the string lights and gently unwind them
- Hang the lights using the mounting hardware, ensuring the lamp holders face downward
- Connect the plug to a standard power outlet
- For permanent outdoor installations, consider using a weatherproof outlet cover
No special tools or electrical knowledge is required for basic installation.
How bright are these festoon lights?
These festoon lights provide ambient, atmospheric lighting rather than task lighting. The 11W incandescent bulbs create a warm, soft glow that's perfect for ambience in entertaining areas. The light output is designed to be gentle and inviting rather than bright and harsh. You can upgrade to LED bulbs or install multiple strings for brighter illumination.
Can these festoon lights be dimmed?
Yes, these festoon lights are dimmable when used with a compatible dimmer. We recommend the Black Plug-In Dimmer (AUD 75.00) or the DimEzy™ Smart Plug-In Dimmer (AUD 69.00), both available separately. These plug-in dimmers allow you to adjust the brightness to create the perfect ambience for any occasion without requiring any electrical modifications. When purchasing accessories with the festoon lights, you'll automatically receive a 20% discount in your shopping cart.
Can I use LED bulbs instead of the included incandescent bulbs?
Yes, these festoon lights are compatible with E27 (Edison Screw) LED bulbs. Upgrading to LED bulbs offers several advantages, including lower energy consumption, reduced heat output, longer lifespan, and sometimes brighter illumination. LED bulbs are available as an upgrade option at purchase or can be added later. When selecting LED bulbs, ensure they're rated for outdoor use if you plan to install them outdoors.
What happens if one bulb breaks or burns out?
These festoon lights are designed with a parallel wiring circuit, meaning if one bulb breaks or burns out, the rest will continue to function normally. Simply replace the non-working bulb with a new E27 (Edison Screw) bulb rated at 25W or less. This design makes maintenance simple and ensures your lighting display isn't compromised by a single bulb failure.
What is the maximum wattage these festoon lights can handle?
Each lamp holder is rated for a maximum of 25 watts, and the entire lighting chain is rated for 1500 watts. This means you can safely use bulbs up to 25W in each socket without exceeding the fixture's capacity. The included 11W incandescent bulbs, as are most LED replacement options, are well within this safety range.
Can these festoon lights be left outside year-round?
Thanks to their IP65 rating and commercial-grade construction, these festoon lights can be installed outdoors year-round in most climates. The waterproof universal joints, silicon rubber lamp holders, and heavy-duty rubber cables are designed to withstand various weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold. For areas with extreme weather conditions (heavy snow, hurricanes, etc.), you may want to temporarily remove and store them during the most severe weather events.
